((Italics are OOC. I'll add more later. Let me know if it's helpful or entertaining heh.))
Deitus sits atop a large, rounded rock, wind sweeping clean its already polished surface. He is a small, willowy man with long black hair tamed into a modest ponytail; revealing a cracked, sundried face and icy wolfen eyes. His apparant fatigue and meak appearance is obscured by fearsome blade in hand, and heavy plate mail clad.
Before him are a group of would-be fighters, a ragtag bunch of refugees. Women, children, elderly and a few strong hands all look to him for whatever guidance he can give. A clear yearning for guidance, all of them having barely lived through a brutal caravan raid. Deitus looks at them all in turn, feeling a mixture of amazement and pity.
"It used to be that I was sent young Cimmerian blades for training. All promising cadets, whom I made into promising warriors. But it would appear that all I have to work with now is a bunch of miserable sods and broken swords." Deitus said, resting his blade aside. "Well, don't just stand there like a bunch of Acheronian dolls. Come with me. Listen to what I have to tell you. I'll turn you weaklings into a functioning platoon, yet." The guardian proclaimed, instructing them all to follow him to a nearby ridge.
"First and foremost. If you expect to survive, let alone kill your opponent, you must realize that a warrior's whit needs to be even sharper than his sword... Always keep your eyes about, depend little upon a torch at night, strike low and afford a moment or two to cover your tracks and watch your back. Remember... Never travel alone with a tired sword arm, rest often and behave as if every moment could be your last."
Remember that if someone wants to kill you, they're most likely going to do it from stealth. But don't worry. There are effective measures you can take to prevent a ranger, assassin, barbarian or otherwise from getting the drop on you.
1)Gankers/Stealth attack survival:
- Keep your perception skill up to snuff. This will save your ass if you keep on it. Be sure to use your search skill every so often. Especially near dungeons, quest objectives or places where gankers and other people are bound to be lurking. Also, remember to sheathe your weapon before searching so you can do it quicker.
-If you suspect someone is stalking you and you can't detect them because your perception skill is too low or they are significantly higher level than you, attempt to hide. If they are watching you, you will not be able to enter stealth. If nobody is present then you will enter stealth normally.
-Keep a knockback or stun ability off cooldown whenever possible. If somebody gets the jump on you for whatever reason, knock them on their ass. This is especially helpful if you're in the middle of fighting an npc. You will be given time. Valuable time that you can use to either get away, get your bearings or buff up and fight back.
"Level your blade before taking the initial swing, make every hit count. Remember that when you block, you only hold back an endless stream of blows... But when you dodge a blow, you earn a chance at swift and deadly retaliation. Be sure to size up your opponent and fight him accordingly. The bigger they are, the harder they fall."
Taking a few moment to map out your hotbars, drilling a couple ability orders and engaging in sound tactics will help you just as much as your combat level in a big fight.
2)Ability use:
-Be sure to read the description on abilities as soon as you learn them. Use each one accordingly and establish orders in which they are to be executed. ex: I'm gonna want to use my defense debuff on the enemy before I use all my heavy hitting abilities, not after they're about to drop.
-Make sure your opponent is in range before finishing a combo, if they move out of range, just don't complete it. Get back into range and try again with another one. You will find that combos that you do not complete have noticeably shorter cool downs than completed ones.
-Know the cone and range of your weapon. Remember, this game has hit detection. Be sure to try and flank or dodge your opponent while getting all of your hits in. The most useful tactic is placing your character at the right range and angle so that all of your swings attack more than one opponent at a time. Make sure you can move and strafe well enough and that your keys are mapped conveniantly. This is especially helpful with polearms and AE attacks.
-Know when to dodge, and what direction to do it.
Dodge left or right for magic/fireballs
Dodge forward for a chance to stun in melee attacks
Dodge backward for a brief 50% increase to evasion coupled with a -50% chance to hit and a -0.1% magic damage penalty.
If you have magic spells, use them while the backwards dodge buff is active, as your melee attacks will have a large chance of missing. But then again. this buff is the shortest lived of the other two, so it probably won't be up long enough for you to hit the enemy.
-Pick the right time to guard. This is most useful if fighting with an ally. While you are unable to make any attack or movement, you are given a 50% chance to block or parry all incoming enemy strikes. So theoretically you could dodge an opponent's most damaging strikes and return the favor afterwards with your most powerful abilities. Be mindful of the drain that active blocking has on your stamina, though.
